My name is Michele.

I am looking forward to taking this course with all of you.

I am third generation Calgarian and live in an inner city community with my husband and 6 year old son - Kai. I/we keep busy biking, camping and spending time with family and our friends, (lately I’ve been meeting lots of new friends since we entered the wonderful world of elementary school).

Why am I taking this course?  I originally completed all of the courses for the PIDP back in 2002.  I had been working at a hospital in Saudi Arabia and knew that I wanted to teach when I returned to Canada.  A colleague of mine in Riyadh was from Vancouver and told me about this program.  When I returned to Canada, I moved to Vancouver and completed the 6 courses for the PIDP in a summer, but due to some extenuating circumstances, I was unfortunately unable to complete my Capstone Project, (formerly known as the practicum).

I have been instructing dental assisting students since I returned to Calgary in the fall of 2002.  I have worked at Colombia College, (2002-2003 )and at SAIT (2003-Present).

Faculty Development Services at SAIT asked me to join them as a contract Faculty member in 2007.  I enjoy facilitating in the Instructional Skills Workshop and Teaching Excellence Foundations whenever opportunities arise.  It provides me with the opportunity to share my teaching expereinces with peers that are seeking assistance and also allows me to meet faculty from various schools across campus. It is a great opportunity for all of us to collaborate and support one another. in our instructional initiatives.

Even though I now have a fair bit of instructional experience, I feel that it is high time that I complete my initial goal of completing my PIDP.  Since I first studied in this program, PIDP3100 was added to the curriculum and so here I am having a fun full circle moment.

The great news is, I feel just as eager and enthusiastic as I did when I first entered this program, because I know what a inspiring program and community this is.

We all come from diverse backgrounds that lend opportunities for all of us to learn from each another.  To me, it doesn’t really get better than that!

I look forward to exploring this course and discovering our personal education philosophies together.

Cheers,

Michele
